What We Record
The index generally DOES record the following
- Headstone or plaque inscriptions that were present when the cemetery was photographed.
- The spouse and parents' names if shown on the inscription.
- Other general information in the Remarks column.
- Abbreviations are used for common words and phrases.
- Contact details for the authority responsible for the cemetery, on the main page of each cemetery. In regional areas public cemeteries are generally the responsibility of the local Council, however many did not acquire the responsibility until relatively recently. Before then cemeteries were usually administered by independent trusts. The quality of the records passed on to local Councils therefore varies greatly.
