The photograph of Denis is with the headstone of his 4th Great Grandfather, Samuel Kingston who lies buried in the churchyard of St Paul's, Paterson NSW, with his wife, Anne.
Samuel died on 31 July 1852, aged 84 years. He lived in Ireland and was transported for life at the age of 54 leaving a wife and seven children behind.
Denis first photographed the small Somerton cemetery, near Tamworth, some years ago, (where a lot of his family are represented), so he could include photographs in his own database.
He then came across “Australian Cemeteries Index†and sent in the photos, not realising what this would lead to. He says he has found the website an invaluable resource.
Since then he has expanded his database to around 6,700 names and has developed a passion for photographing headstones for himself and the Australian Cemeteries Index website when time permits.
His most memorable cemetery was at Kiandra in the Snowy Mountain Region which he understands is the highest cemetery in Australia.
