Plaques displayed at this cemetery explain that Tamworth was the wartime location for No 6 Elementary Flying Training School, RAAF. This small war cemetery contains the graves of 8 RAAF and 10 Army personnel, some of whom died in training accidents. There are several other personnel buried in the Tamworth General Cemetery. The cemetery is maintained in impeccable condition.

Denis Woolaston visited and photographed the cemetery and its inscriptions in March 2007. His images may be viewed and downloaded from the list of inscriptions for this cemetery. Since then, in November 2017 he has added four additional photographs of the cemetery itself.

From the Tamworth CBD take Bligh Street north to Forest Hills Road (and the wast management depot). The cemetery is on the left, just out of town, 0.5 km past the Monteray Street intersection. As it is only a small cemetery, it can be easily missed behind the roadside trees and bushes.

The Tamworth War Cemetery is administered by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.
