At the inquest into John's death, his wife Martha said that he "was a native of Adelaide, 52 years of age"; The Coroner (report attached) found that John Gledden was accidentally drowned in a tank at Mt Oriel, Iandra (near Grenfell), through falling into the said tank whilst removing a scaffold on which he had been working, i.e. he was working on a tank, slipped off the scaffolding, was knocked out and drowned; a family member boarded the night train to go to Grenfell to arrange for the return of his body, John and Martha are buried together, they had no children; He arrived in to Adelaide with his family in 1875 on the Lady Jocelyn.
