WILLIAM HENRY CAPUANO known as ("POMP") was the second son of Ann (Pearson) and Spiro James Capuano and third of their seventeen children. He was also known by the surname of PAVARNO, as were other family members until it was corrected to "CAPUANO'. In his younger days he was a keen footballer, and played cricket with the Long Point club of that time. Except for about 12 months in New Zealand seeking work, along with his brother Edwin, he spent practically all his life in Creswick and, like most men in a mining town, was a miner until the search for gold slackened off. He did farm labour work around the Creswick area and also worked at Dixon Brothers Mill for some time.
