SPIRO JAMES CAPUANO (known as JAMES) was the first of the eight children born to Agnes Little (Bell) and Antonio (Pavarno) Capuano of Creswick, Victoria. He was born at Creswick on the 28th April 1857. (His birth certificate is shown as Speris James PAVARNO). James was also the first Australian born CAPUANO descendant. Most of his working life was spent underground, his occupation being that of a Miner. He could tell of the earlier days when there were no eight hours a day and the best miner was lucky to get Two Pounds Ten Shillings per week. James started work at the age of fourteen years, filling buckets, and walked eight miles to work at the mine then back home every day. Like his father, he was known also as PAVARNO.
