Why is Thomas Black, many years a resident of Raymond Terrace, buried at St Peters? For some years he had been noted as the largest storekeeper in Raymond Terrace, ‘six months before his death he betrayed symptoms of aberration of mind and had been placed in Mr Tucker’s private asylum (Bay View House at Tempe) where he died from paralysis of the brain’ Empire dated 6 April 1871: On the 4th April, at Bay View House, Cook's River, Mr. Thomas Black, late of Raymond Terrace, Hunter River, aged 38 years, deeply regretted by a large circle of friends.
