Newspaper Fri 23 Jul 1920- Death of one of the olddest residents of Mt Hope and district in the person of Mr.Malcolm Paterson, who passed away at his residence, at the Government Tank,on Tuesday evening last after along illness, at the age of 71 years and 9 months. The deceased came to Mt Hope about the year 1881,and permanently resided there until his death. In his younger days he took a very keen interest in all kinds of sport, and always foremost in horse racing and cricket,and in the latter played with Mt.Hope against Hillston, of times proving very annoying to the bowlers. He was for many years a trustee and chairman to the Mt.Hope common. He was a blacksmith and wheelwright by trade,and carried on the business until a few years ago The deceased leaves a widow and grown up family, consisting of one son and six daughters (all of whom are married),about 62 grandchildren, and 4 great grand children, to mourn the loss of a kind husband and father. Interred in the Presbyterian portion.
