On Monday afternoon last, at Tre-herne, Newnham, there passed away Mr Ernest William Whittle, eldest son of the late William Whittle, of Rocklands, White Hills, after a short but severe ill-ness. He was a gentleman of sterling character, being generous, conscientious, and genial to a high degree. His early demise is much regretted by a host of relatives and friends. Yesterday his remains were conveyed to Evandale, and interred in the family vault, in the Scotch burial ground. The service was conducted by Rev. John. Russell. Deceased leaves a widow, two sons, and one daughter. He was in the service of Messrs. B. G. Clark and Co. for 16 years, and latterly with the Tasmanian Manufacturing and importing Company. - (from the Daily Telegraph (Launceston, Tas. : 1883 - 1928) of Thursday 17 April 1902, Page 2.)
