Marysville Public
Old Melbourne Road,
Marysville Public Cemetery is located just over 1km south of the township. Inscriptions found in November 2011 date from 1876, a year before the cemetery was officially proclaimed. It is believed that there are many unmarked graves. A small columbarium has been added but as yet remains little used.
The cemetery, indeed the whole town, was devastated by the 'Black Saturday' bushfire of 7 February 2009 and a memorial to those who died in the fire stands close by the graves of 10 of the victims. The Victorian State Government subsequently provided a special grant to the Cemetery Trust to help get the cemetery back into operation .
Ian Middleton visited the site and photographed all visible inscriptions in December 2011. He said it is "well maintained, in a bush setting. The grounds were mown and there were recent plantings and seating for visitors."
Ian's pictures may be viewed from the list of inscriptions for this cemetery. Ian also compiled that list with additional information added by reference to the Australian War Memorial online military rolls and the Ryerson Index for several dates of death.
Head south on Pack Road for 1.2km, turn right for 200m and left into Old Melbourne Road. The cemetery is immediately on the left hand side of the road. Lat -37.519249, Long 145.738447
