Richmond War Cemetery contains the graves of 26 military personnel, most of whom died during World War 2 when Richmond Air Base was a major base for 3, 6, 9 and 22 squadrons of the RAAF. More recently, the remains of a soldier killed in action in Afghanistan was also interred here.
Most of those who were buried here died as the result of accidents. Two major events occurred within a period of a little over two weeks. On 20 December 1944, a Lockheed Hudson Bomber on a test flight crashed when making a landing approach at the air base claiming the lives of eight personnel. On 5 January 1945, Dragon A34-65 crashed at Mount Druitt after suffering engine problems. Three RAF and 2 RAAF personnel were killed.
Michael Brookhouse has contributed images of all inscriptions that he made in April 2012. Michael's pictures may be downloaded from the list of inscriptions for this cemetery. In compiling that list, reference was made to the Australian War Memorials online military rolls and the NSW indices of births, deaths and marriages for additional information.
