Sallys Flat RC
Yet another of the historic cemeteries on the Turon goldfields, this burial site has obviously been well maintained over the years. Even though showing the effects of a long drought when we visited it, we found it in excellent condition with all the stones upright, the grass cut and trimmed around all the graves, and the graves themselves clean and relatively free of weeds. Dates on the monuments covered the period from 1864 to the present. The tiny Catholic Church replaced an earlier wooden structure in the 1990s.
Jean and I made digital images and notes of every visible inscription on 7 May 2004. In compiling this list, we also consulted the NSW index of births, deaths and marriages for further information.
Sallys Flat is a locality between Sofala and Hill End. If travelling from Sofala, take the Hill End Road for 20.2km from its junction with the Bathurst Road and turn right into Slatterys Road. The cemetery is located at the rear of the Catholic Church, almost opposite that junction.
Sallys Flat is within the Catholic Diocese of Bathurst. For further information, enquiries can be directed to the Chancery Office, 84 George Street (PO Box 246), Bathurst NSW 2785 (email: firstname.lastname@example.org).
