Broke General Cemetery occupies a small area on the corner of Butler Road on land donated by the Blaxland family. It contains monuments dating from 1844 and a small columbarium which appears to have come into use circa 1988. The cemetery is well fenced on the Charlton Road side with post and wire fencing on the outher boundaries. The monuments are generally in good condition and legible.
On 3 September 1988, a memorial wall erected on the site was unveiled by Dr Peter Blaxland. This lists all known but unmarked graves in the Broke area at that time. The 65 names displayed on it have been included in this listing.
We understand that, until recent years, the maintenance of the cemetery and its records were the responsibilty of a local group of trustees. Currently, cemetery maintenance is being undertaken by Xtrata (Bulga Coal). Our contributor, Joe Sharman, visited the site in July 2011 and found the grounds well maintained.
Joe made a digital image of every visible inscription. These may be downloaded from the list of inscriptions for this cemetery. That list was compiled with reference to the NSW indices of births, deaths and marriages and to the Australian War Memorial online listing of military rolls for additional information.
