Bathampton Villa is an 1874 homestead designed by the colonial architect Edward Gell. The seven-bedroom residence sits on a 317-hectare holding. The farm has been in the Gilmour family since 1856. John Newell Gilmour, who arrived in the colony from Ireland in 1832 aged 13, moved there from his Bulgandramine station at Bogan with his wife, Emma. Building the house cost £3000. The couple had 10 children, including Mary, who married James Rutherford, the eldest son of James Rutherford of Cobb & Co at Bathampton in 1890.
