Nundle General Cemetery dates from around 1850 with the earliest inscription extant being 1852. It occupies a generous site with the groups of graves fairly scattered. Unfortunately, the cemetery appears to have been subject to vandalism on more than one occasion. Many of the older stones have fallen and broken, for whatever reason, and fragments are missing. Generally, however, the remaining inscriptions are very legible and old sandstone engravings in remarkably good condition.

It is encouraging to see that several modern plaques have been erected to mark the previously unmarked or unknown graves of pioneers of Nundle. A small columbarium displays plaques from 1984 but, as yet, is little used. The grounds are neat and tidy and well maintained by Tamworth Regional Council. There are no portion or row markers in place or on site facilities provided.

Liz Pritchard visited and photographed all the visible images at Nundle Cemetery in late December 2009. She has compiled the list of inscriptions for this cemetery from her images and notes and with reference to the NSW indices of births, deaths and marriages and to the Australian War Memorial online military rolls for additional information.

From Nundle's shopping centre, head south along Jenkins Street for 0.9km then left into Point Street for 1.6km to the cemetery lane.

Nundle Cemetery is administered by Tamworth Regional Council. For further information, contact Council at PO Box 555, Tamworth NSW 2340; phone 02 6767 5555; email: trc@tamworth.nsw.gov.au
