Pioneers Cres (formerly Granuaille Cres)
Bangalow Cemetery occupies an undulating site on a hillside near the Pacific Highway. It comprises several monumental portions, with inscriptions dating from the 1890s, and a lawn cemetery that appears to have been established in the 1980s.
Peter Arthur needed to visit this site on three occasions during a season of wind and rain in order to complete his survey. He says that the grounds are in good condition, are well maintained by the Byron Shire Council and there is no evidence of vandalism.
Peter made digital images of every visible inscription. His pictures may be downloaded from the list of inscriptions for this cemetery. That list was compiled from his images and with reference to the NSW and Queensland indices of births, deaths and marriages and the the Australian War Memorial online military rolls for additional information.
Pioneers Crescent (formerly Granuaille Cres) is approximately 2km north of the town and close by the Pacific Highway.
Bangalow General Cemetery is administered by the Byron Shire Council. For further information, contact Council at PO Box 219, Mullumbimby NSW 2482; phone 02 6626 7000; email firstname.lastname@example.org
