160 Parrakie South Rd
The Parrakie Cemetery is one of three active cemeteries in the Southern Mallee District Council.
The council has 98 burials recorded, but 127 people were found. The graves are found in Rows A & B. The grounds are quite large to fit another apprximately 150 gravesites. There are two large octagonal Columbariums available also.
In the Chronicle (Page 19, Saturday 7 October 1911) mentions the passing of a motion to partly clear and fence the Parrakie Cemetery.
The graves and grounds are in excellent condition. All headstones are readable, although a number are covered in a considerable amount of lichen. No vandalism or broken headstones. There are only a few unmarked graves.
This cemetery was visited in November 2015 using a Canon Powershot camera.
From the Mallee Highway, take the main road into Parrakie and cross the railway line. It is 1.6km south of the highway.
