Dawson River
Taree General
The Dawson River Cemetery occupies a large undulating site by the river. It succeeded earlier cemeteries at Taree and displays inscriptions dating from as early as 1848. At the time of listing, it was in good order but due for mowing. Weeds and long grass within some of the grave enclosures needed attention.
The digital images were made by Paul Fitzgerald over the first four months of 2008. His images may be downloaded from the list of inscriptions for this cemetery. Paul also compiled the inscription list with reference to the NSW BDM online search facility and the Australian War Memorial Nominal Rolls for both WW1 and WW2 for additional information. From Council and other records, he has been able to include many unmarked graves.
Taree's Dawson River Cemetery is approximately 6km from the CBD. Take the Manning River Drive towards Cundletown and, at the airport, turn left onto Lansdowne Road. From here it is 0.6km to the cemetery lane and a further 0.5 km to the cemetery.
The Dawson River Cemetery is administered by the Mid Coast Council. For further information, contact Council at PO Box 482, Taree NSW 2430; phone: 02 7955 7777; email:council@midcoast.nsw.gov.au;
