"Corrimal Catholic Cemetery is the oldest landmark in Corrimal. It is situated on the Princes Highway, across the road from the parish church, St Columbkille's. The land for the cemetery was donated by Murty and Bridget Farraher. Following the death of their son Denis in 1863, they gave the land to the parish so it could be used as a place for his interment." So begins the introduction to "Corrimal Cemetery" by Alice Weber.

The cemetery was in regular use up to the late 1960s but then fell into disrepair. About ten years later, restoration work was undertaken. Some headstones that were damaged or illegible were mounted on the eastern wall. The names of people known to have been buried in the cemetery but in an unknown lot, were inscribed and displayed on the memorial wall. The cemetery is once again in regular use and is maintained today, in excellent order, by volunteers from amongst the parishioners.

The list of burials and images of the inscriptions were kindly provided by Jack Smith. The list is based mainly on the Cemetery Register and the Register of Deaths (Liber Defunctorum) held at the office of St Columbkille's. It has been extensively reviewed, revised and extended especially by the kind efforts of Christine Phillips, who consulted a variety of written resources and interviewed a number of parishioners.

Jack's images may be viewed at the list of inscriptions for this cemetery. The book referred to above, "Corrimal Cemetery" by Alice Weber, includes considerable information about 80 or so families whose members are buried at Corrimal as well as parents' details for many of those listed that we have not been able to include here. This excellent publication is available from The Parish Secretary, St Columbkille's, PO Box 32, Corrimal NSW 2518 and is a real bargain at $15 plus postage.

Corrimal Cemetery is on the eastern side of the highway. It lies between Wyndham Street and Rothery Street, near the top of a hill and opposite St Columbkille's Church and School. The cemetery is bounded on the north side by the Corrimal Public School and on the south by a laneway separating it from a Fire Station.

The Corrimal RC Cemetery is administered by the Parish of St Columbkille's. For further information, contact the Parish Secretary, PO Box 32, Corrimal NSW 2518. Jack Smith is also willing to provide further information.
