The Cargo Cemetery consists of Anglican, Catholic and Presbyterian portions. A small columbarium has been added recently but as yet is little used. Burials began here in the 1870s and the cemetery is still in use.
James Dietrich visited the site and photographed the inscriptions in June 2006. He says that there are many unmarked graves. Many of the headstones relate to early Irish settlers in the district. Since then, Keith Skinner has provided several additional images and details of a number of unmarked graves obtained from Parish records. To both contributors we express our thanks.
James' and Keith's images may be downloaded from the list of inscriptions for this cemetery. That list was compiled with reference to the NSW indexes of births, deaths and marriages and the nominal rolls for both World Wars held by the Australian War Memorial for additional information.
From Cargo village, head north along Molong Street (Cudal-Cargo Road) for about 1.5km. The cemetery is on the right hand side of the road.
Cargo General Cemetery is administered and maintained by the Cabonne Shire Council. For further information, contact Council at PO Box 17, Molong NSW 2866; phone: 02 6392 3200; email: email@example.com
