The South Rockhampton Cemetery or Rockhampton General Cemetery was State heritage listed in 1993. The cemetery is divided into denominational sections. The earliest headstone is from 1862.
Many of the headstones and plots are in very bad state of disrepair, permission can be sought from Rockhampton council if you wish to attend to a loved ones grave. Please do so, it would be great to see these headstones repaired as well as protected.
Travelling from the South along Highway A1, turn left at the BP service Station, into Prospect Street. This is one of three entries into the cemetery, however this is the most congregated area of the cemetery. Why not stop and photograph some of these, even if they are not your loved ones, to preserve their memory.
