Bulimba Uniting Church
216 Oxford Street
The Bulimba Uniting Church was originally opened as a Primitive Methodist Church in 1866. It was the first church built in the Bulimba district and, with the front extensions completed in 1926, has served as a focus for community worship for 145 years. William Thorpe Riding donated the land on which the Uniting Church now stands as a site for a church. William Thorpe Riding and his wife, who both died in 1877 are buried in the grounds of the church. The earliest headstone inscription appears to be from 1876. The QLD BMD was utilised to find further details for some of the inscriptions. The photographs were taken on the 8th of November 2015.
The grounds are in excellent condition. The historical graves are showing signs of wear and erosion, however plaques are now attached to the Riding graves where the lettering has become illegible, thus preserving the original epitaph.
The church can be found on the corner of Oxford street and Lytton Road, the church has some off street parking. The small cemetery and columbarium are located at the back of the church.
