Forster General Cemetery was photographed and listed by Paul Fitzgerald during June and July 2007. The tree covered site on the corner of Strand Street and Alban Place comprises Anglican, Catholic, Presbyterian and Independent portions, memorial gardens and a columbarium. It contains inscriptions dating from 1870. By special request, the adjoining Aboriginal cemetery has been included in this listing. A site plan is exhibited near the entrance as well as a plan of the memorial gardens.
Paul says that, although the cemetery has no amenities or internal parking, both are well catered for nearby. He is impressed by the work of Council staff who maintain the site in excellent condition.
In compiling the list of inscriptions, reference was made to the NSW indexes of births, deaths and marriages and to the Australian War Memorial online military rolls for additional information. We are also grateful for information kindly supplied by Council and the Holy Name Church from their records regarding graves that have not been marked. Paul's images may be viewed and downloaded from the list of inscriptions for this cemetery.
