The digital images and inscription list for Bena Cemetery have been contributed by Garry Batt. Garry says:
"The entry gate and entry fence struck me as a solid piece of engineering, unusual for a rural cemetery, and shows that someone cared. The cemetery is completely fenced in and the cows outside are friendly.
"The cemetery is split up into three distinct sections which aren't sign posted. Just about in the middle, when I visited in April 2007, was a small concrete pad and several stacks of bricks where council is having a columbarium erected. There are no facilities such as water taps, seats, rubbish bins or shelter provided.
"The cemetery was neat and tidy with the grass mown and no obvious signs of vandalism such as broken glass noticed. There were cats head burrs present so it is advised to wear stout footwear.
"There were several unmarked graves that I noted on a previous visit in 2002 that I couldn't now locate and several new ones that were unmarked."
Garry visited Bena Cemetery in March/April 2007 and made notes and digital images of every visible inscription. When compiling the list, the NSW indexes of births, deaths and marriages and the World War 2 Nominal Roll were referred to for further information. His images may be viewed and downloaded from the list of inscriptions for this cemetery.
Bena Cemetery is situated 50 klms from Condobolin and 55 klms from West Wyalong. It is set back about 1km from the road and you must pass through a cow grazing paddock. There is a gate into the paddock and another into the cemetery. Each of these must be opened and closed as you pass. The cemetery is sign posted and is only about 200 metres away from a rest area on the opposite side of the road.
