This small cemetery we found in excellent condition, despite the drought conditions at the time, with grass cut and trimmed, no evidence of vandalism and no broken glass. There has obviously been considerable local input into its grounds and their maintenance by members of the local RSL who have donated the memorial gates and many of the trees and shrubs.

Portions are not marked but these are arranged either side of a central avenue of trees, mostly ironbarks. It is likely that the Anglican portion is on the right hand side of the cemetery and Catholic and other portions on the left. If you have ever wondered where gnomes go when they retire from active service, this is it. I have never seen so many congregated in one place before.

Inscriptions date from 1908. In compiling the inscription list, we have referred to both the NSW BDM indexes and military rolls for further information. Digital images were made of all inscriptions and these may be viewed and downloaded from the list of inscriptions for this cemetery.

From the township of Delungra, drive west along Inverell Street (Gwydir Highway) towards Warialda for about 1.5 km and turn left into Haywood Road. The cemetery lane is 1.5km from that intersection and is signposted.

The Delungra Cemetery is administered by the Inverell Shire Council. For further information, contact Council at PO Box 138, Inverell NSW 2360; phone 02 6728 8288; email council@inverell.nsw.gov.au
