Bowling Alley Point Cemetery, previously known as the Dungowan Parish General Cemetery and also known as Andersons Flat, was dedicated on 15 June 1877. It was administered by a trust whose members were drawn from the Anglican, Catholic, Presbyterian and Wesleyan Churches as well as Jewish and Unsectarian representatives. The cemetery plan shows that the area was divided into Anglican, Roman Catholic, Presbyterian, Wesleyan, Jewish, Unsectarian (Chinese) and Independent portions.
A plaque exhibited in the Cemetery lists all known burials at this site as compiled and inscribed by Australian author Tom McClelland. This is yet another beneficent project undertaken by the author in an attempt to help preserve some of our early cemetery history and he is to be congratulated for his generosity. Another plaque lists several burials known to have taken place on private properties in the Dungowan Parish area. These have been incorporated in the list of inscriptions for this cemetery.
The original data for Bowling Alley Point Cemetery was provided by Roma Waldron who listed all the inscriptions in 1990. In December 2009, Liz and Alan Pritchard visited the cemetery and made digital images of every visible inscription. The earliest original headstone they found was dated 1884.
In 2022 Christine Loveridge visited the cemetery and reported on the it's sad state of neglect. "A bit of hard work mowing and cleaning up would go a long way, such a tourist attraction going to waste, hopefully better next time we come."
