Cootamundra Cemetery is a medium sized cemetery and reflects the traditional history of a rural town. The area is open and the climate can be quite harsh.

The cemetery is well maintained and in good condition. There is no sign of vandalism or neglect.

The cemetery is divided into older denominational monumental and modern lawn portions. There are 4 Columbaria. At the southern edge is an area of unmarked Chinese graves.

Prior to 2018 the cemetery was partially catalogued with 554 inscriptions added from various parts of the cemetery.

Ray Cork visited the cemetery in June 2020 and made digital images of all inscriptions in the Baptist, Seventh Day Adventist, General and Catholic A Monumental Portions. These images are currently being transcribed and uploaded to the database. In addition entries for the war cemetery were separated from the General Cemetery into Cootamundra War Cemetery.

Substantial areas of the cemetery have yet to be photographed and transcribed.

This is a Work in Progress.

The cemetery is over the railway line from the main part of town, near the saleyards on the northern approach to the town.
The cemetery is around 70m from Olympic Hwy, on the left hand side of the road when approaching Cootamundra from the North (from Wallenbeen & Young). The entryway is before the railway overbridge, where the road name changes to Yass Road (after the bridge). The cemetery is between Rinkin Street beside the stockyards and Rodeo Drive after the railway over bridge.
