Mudgee's monumental cemetery contains inscriptions dating from the 1850s. It is divided into denominational portions, all of which are clearly marked, and the rows are, for the most part, also well marked. However, in both the old Catholic and old Anglican portions, there are small central sections with irregular layouts where no attempt has been made to designate rows.
Fortunately, there is currently little evidence of vandalism although it seems to have been a problem in the past. There is also a columbarium wall for ashes, erected before the advent of the adjacent lawn cemetery. A signboard near the main entrance to the cemetery shows a plan of the site and a small toilet block with tank water is provided. The grounds are well maintained.
Jean and I originally transcribed the cemetery in March/April 2002 and have fully updated our records on two occasions since then. This list was compiled from digital images and notes we made of every visible inscription at those times. In compiling the list, we also referred to the NSW indexes of births, deaths and marriages and to the death and funeral announcements and obituaries published in the Mudgee Guardian & Gulgong Advertiser for further information.
From Mudgee CBD, take the Ulan Road north out of town for 4.5km. The cemetery is on the eastern side of the road opposite the Mudgee Airport.
