The Kootingal-Moonbi General Cemetery was photographed and listed by Denis Woolaston in March 2007. He says:

"The cemetery was dedicated on 18th August 1887 and is still in use with the oldest headstone dating back to 5th Jan 1872. The cemetery is well fenced and in good condition but there is a small problem with rabbits undermining a few of the headstones (March 2007).

"There have been at least 544 burials to date including 35 unmarked gravesites. There is an isolated headstone at the far eastern end of the cemetery of an unknown Chinese dated 1918. Other headstones are arranged in unmarked rows in different denominational areas."

In compiling the list of inscriptions, the NSW BDM indexes and military records were consulted for further information. Denis' images may be viewed and downloaded from the list of inscriptions for this cemetery.

The small village of Moonbi is situated 20 kilometres north of Tamworth on the New England Highway. Kootingal lies a few kilometres south of Moonbi adjacent to the highway. The cemetery is on the northeastern side of Moonbi village. Travelling north from Tamworth, take the Limbri turnoff right into George Street and the cemetery is 0.8km on the left.

The Kootingal-Moonbi Cemetery is administered by the Tamworth Regional Council. Contact Council at PO Box 555, Tamworth NSW 2340; phone: 02 6767 5555; email: trc@tamworth.nsw.gov.au
