At least two burials took place here before the nearby Mendooran General Cemetery was established about 20 years later. The two headstones, both dated 1870, are a local landmark. They stand in the middle of a paddock beside the road and have been enclosed by a substantial timber fence to prevent damage from grazing stock. Both stones mark the graves of Freeman children, one of whom married a Byrnes - pioneering families of Mendooran.
We were kindly given permission to visit the site on 4 October 2005 when we made digital images and took notes of the inscriptions. We are also grateful to Lisa for her subsequent assistance in identifying the inscriptions.
Digital images of the inscriptions may be viewed and downloaded from the list of inscriptions for this cemetery
