Pyramul Anglican Cemetery
Address: Grattai Road, Pyramul 2850 NSW
When originally visited in June 2002, the cemetery grounds were badly overgrown and the knee-high grass and weeds made it difficult to move around. On our subsequent visit in May 2004, we found that some reduction in the overgrowth had taken place but much remains to be done.
For the most part, the monuments were intact, but several fallen and broken stones were located in the long grass and there are probably more to be found if the grounds were properly cleaned up. One early stone referred to by locals as commemorating a death at the hands of bushrangers appears to be missing. We found inscriptions dating from 1864 to 2003.
In 2008, Roberta and Arnold Sigston discovered the badly overgrown Foster graves. They cleared away the vegetation and refurbished the monuments and enclosing fences. We are grateful for images they took of the graves after their restoration work was completed.
Jean and I made digital images and notes of all visible inscriptions in June 2002 and updated these on 27 May 2004. In compiling this list, we also referred to the NSW indexes of births, deaths and marriages and to the death and funeral announcements and obituaries published in the Mudgee Guardian & Gulgong Advertiser. Images of inscriptions may be viewed and downloaded from the list of all inscriptions for this cemetery.
