Tibooburra Cemetery
Address: Off Silver City Highway, Tibooburra 2880 NSW
Tibooburra township was gazetted on 9 July 1884 and the cemetery dedicated on 15 January 1888. It contains inscriptions dating from 1882. Ian Middleton visited and photographed every visible inscription in July 2010. He says:
"The cemetery is fenced although, at the time of my visit, there was a large hole in the netting that would allow stock to access it. Work is being carried out on the cemetery grounds and a pioneer wall has been erected. Most of the graves and headstones are un-kept and there are many unmarked, but no evidence of vandalism. I was told that early burial records were destroyed in a fire around 1950."
Ian's pictures may be downloaded from the list of all inscriptions for this cemetery. That list was compiled from his images and with reference to the NSW indices of births, deaths and marriages and to the Australian War Memorial online military rolls for additional information.
