Mudgee Lawn Cemetery was established in 1993 and has been well planned and set out. The area has been planted with attractive trees and shrubs, including natives. It is regularly mown and watered and the beautiful results are a credit to both Council and the staff who maintain it. Unfortunately, contrary to Council regulations, decorations, ornaments, solar lights, beer cans, bottles and the like have been allowed to proliferate on several of the graves. These spill over onto the gardens in the centre of the beams and must represent a problem for the gardeners.
At present (January 2010), there are eleven beams with a new section under construction. A baby lawn area was recently added. There is ample room for future expansion. At both ends of each beam are trees with surrounds to take memorial plaques. The columbarium wall precedes the lawn cemetery and is located in the monumental cemetery. The road within the cemetery is paved and there is plenty of parking space. Toilet facilities are not installed but there are such facilities in the monumental cemetery next door. There is vehicle and pedestrian access between both cemeteries.
Jean and I originally listed and photographed the cemetery in March 2002 and have updated our data on three occasions since then, the latest in January 2010. Images of the inscriptions may be downloaded from the list of inscriptions for this cemetery.
From Mudgee, take the Ulan Road north for 4km. The cemetery adjoins Ulan Road but entrance to it is gained from a side road, Mount Pleasant Lane, opposite the Mudgee Airport.
