Sandhills Historic Cemetery
Also known as Joskeleigh
Address: Joskeleigh Road Keppel Sands 4702 QLD
Sandhills Historic Cemetery contains the remains of South Sea Islander men, women and children "laid to rest in their own special cemetery". A plaque mounted on the site lists their names but, unfortunately, without any further information. The tiny cemetery contains only five plaques and several wooden markers.
Peter and Karen Patterson-Kane visited Sandhills in January 2010 and made digital images and notes of all the inscriptions. They said that the grounds were neat and tidy and the shelter in the cemetery grounds provided a visitors book. Their images may be downloaded from the list of inscriptions for this cemetery. That list was compiled with reference to the Queensland index of deaths but with very limited success.
