Cnr Koree Island & Pappinbarra Roads,
Beechwood Cemetery occupies a large, open, rolling site approximately 500m west of the village and is in two parts with private farmland separating the two portions. Graves are scattered widely over the whole of the site. One lone grave is located within what is now the private farmland.
Inscriptions date from 1882 and the cemetery is still in use with recent burials noted. At the time of listing it had recently been mown and was in good order with no sign of vandalism. Many of the graves are aging with some inscriptions becoming difficult to read. Many headstones have fallen or are otherwise broken. There are no facilities provided.
Portions are not marked but from the wording of inscriptions is appears that the separate westernmost portion is Roman Catholic. There are no markers identifying rows or grave numbering.
The digital images were taken by Ray Cork during April 2009. His images may be downloaded from the list of inscriptions for this cemetery. Ray also compiled the inscription list with reference to the NSW BDM online search facility and the Australian War Memorial Nominal Rolls for both WW1 and WW2 for additional information.
Beechwood is a small village approx 9 km north west of Wauchope. From the centre of Beechwood village take Pappinbarra Rd west for approx 500m. The cemetery can be seen on the left (southern) side at the intersection with Koree Island Rd. The separate westernmost portion is a further 300m west on Pappinbarra Rd.
Beechwood Cemetery is administered by the Port Macquarie-Hastings Council. For further information, contact Council at PO Box 84, Port Macquarie NSW 2444; phone 02 6581 8111; email: firstname.lastname@example.org
