Roma General Cemetery
Address: Lewis Street, Roma 4455 QLD
Roma General Cemetery is a fairly large regional cemetery in south-west Queensland. It contains denominational portions, with inscriptions dating from 1872, and a more recently added lawn cemetery and columbarium. The grounds, with an avenue of trees down the centre, were in excellent order when John Arthur visited the site in June 2007. He says that some of the older graves, especially those relocated from the original cemetery, face east whereas the cemetery is aligned to face approximately ESE.
John made digital images of all visible inscriptions and the list of all inscriptions for this cemetery was compiled from his images and with reference to the Queensland BDM search facility and to the Australian War Memorial military rolls for both world wars for additional information.
John is grateful for the assistance given him by the Roma & District Family History Society Inc, which welcomes inquiries. Contact the Society at Roma History Lodge, (PO Box 877) 17 McDowall Street, Roma Qld 4455; phone: 07 4622 7322; email: romahistorysoc@hotmail.com
