Tarro General Cemetery
Address: Quarter Sessions Road, Tarro 2322 NSW
Ruth King visited and photographed Tarro Cemetery in June 2008. Burials here date from the late 1840s and two inscriptions from this period are extant. The last interment took place in 1971. Unfortunately, several of the old stones have fallen and are in pieces on the ground while others are much weathered and difficult to read. There is no signage to indicate portions. The grounds were in good order and well maintained by Newcastle City Council.
Ruth has prepared the list of all inscriptions for this cemetery from her digital images and notes taken at the time. That list was compiled with reference to the NSW indices of births, deaths and marriages for additional information. We are indebted to the Newcastle City Council for information relating to 18 known burials which graves are now unmarked.
How to find it
