Girilambone General Cemetery
Address: Arcturus Street, Girilambone 2831 NSW
After the disappointing first view of the village, with its vandalised railway station and burned-out and derelict buildings, the cemetery comes as a pleasant surprise. It is neatly laid out in denominational portions, all clearly labelled. The site is well fenced, there is no evidence of vandalism and burrs were no problem. The red soil is almost devoid of vegetation except for some scrubby trees.
Girilambone Cemetery is a little over 100 years old, the earliest inscription being dated 1900. The graves are mostly in good condition and the inscriptions legible. However, there are quite a few unmarked graves and others that have only basic markers.
This list was compiled from digital images that Jean and I made of every visible inscription and from notes taken when we visited the cemetery on 14 Apr 2005. We also consulted the NSW index of births, deaths and marriages for further information. Images of inscriptions may be viewed and downloaded from the list of all inscriptions for this cemetery.
