Neranie Head Cemetery

Address: off The Lakes Way, Bungwahl 2423 NSW

Paul Fitzgerald visited the old Neranie Head cemetery and photographed its few remaining monuments in July 2007. He writes: "At Neranie, you have to park your car and walk up the track to the cemetery. I would say it was about 500 yards to the top.(I counted the steps on the way back). It is up hill and a bit steep but quite doable. The track is car width all the way to the top, but a padlocked post prevents you from driving up."

The cemetery appears to have been in use for a relatively short while - between about 1880 and 1917. Its life more or less coincided with that of a nearby sawmill, which employed a large number of workers. Neranie Head Cemetery has been classified by the National Trust (NSW).

In preparing the list of inscriptions, reference was made to the NSW indexes of births, deaths and marriages for further information. Paul's images may be viewed and downloaded from the list of all inscriptions for this cemetery.
