Greenethorpe Private Cemetery

Also known as Iandra Private.

Address: Greenethorpe 2809 NSW

This small private cemetery is attached to the chapel at "Iandra", a property owned and developed by George Henry Greene from 1868 until his death in 1911. Greene was a prominent figure who served terms as MP for Grenfell and as an MLA. He is credited with having the rail link (via Greenethorpe) to Grenfell established and was also notable for the introduction of share-farming to Australia.

The homestead, known as "Iandra Castle" for obvious reasons, and the Gothic style chapel and its cemetery were all built by Greene. Graves in the cemetery include Greene himself as well as several members of his family. More recently, David Morris, who acquired Iandra about 1975 and undertook major restoration of property and homestead, died in 2002 and is also buried here.

The list was originally compiled by Tracey Olivieri from data supplied by a contributor who wished to remain anonymous. In January 2008, Mary Eastlake contributed images of all inscriptions in this little cemetery, as well as the chapel exterior and its neglected interior. To all three contributors, we say thank you.

Mary's images may be downloaded from the list of all inscriptions for this cemetery. That list was compiled with reference to the NSW BDM indexes for further information.
