Boggabri Lawn Cemetery

Boggabri Lawn Cemetery is located next to and on what was originally a portion of the General Cemetery. In fact, one headstone dated 1947 remains in situ and has been included in the list and images for the General Cemetery. There is a perimeter fence around the whole cemetery site without any separation between the general and lawn cemeteries. The internal roadway is unsealed and no seating or shelter is provided. However, a small toilet block is located in the adjoining general cemetery.
The lawn cemetery appears to have begun with the erection of the columbarium about 1990 as the earliest plaque is dated 1991. This was followed by lawn burials from around 1995. A tree planting project sponsored by the Boggabri Lions in 1997 will enhance the visual appeal of the site and provide welcome shade as the trees mature. We found the grounds well maintained with lawns mown and trimmed. However, this new and rather bare site would benefit from the addition of shrubs and flower gardens.
We visited the cemetery on 31 March 2006 and noted and made digital images of all visible inscriptions. In compiling the list, we also consulted the nominal rolls for World War 1 and World War 2 for further information. How to find it
From the intersection of Wee Waa Street (Narrabri Road) and Grantham Street (Gunnedah Road), turn west into Grantham Street, pass the hospital, then follow the zig-zag across the bridge over the railway line. Take the first street right (Walton Street) and then the first left (Caxton Street West).
