The Bellata Cemetery is situated on a large site that contains two widely separated groups of graves, signposted as Catholic and Church of England portions respectively. However, it is possible that there are other isolated graves that we did not discover in the long grass that covered the entire site.
The area is fenced to exclude stock and has a single entrance. There is no internal roadway. The monuments are in good order with no sign of vandalism. Inscriptions date from 1900 up to the present time.
We visited the cemetery on 30 March 2006 and made notes and digital images of every visible inscription. When compiling the list, we referred to the NSW indexes of births, deaths and marriages and to the World War 2 Nominal Roll for further information.
Bellata is a village on the Newell Highway 45km north of Narrabri on the way to Moree. In the village, turn right opposite the truck stop into Wilga Street (Millie Road). The cemetery is 3km from that intersection and it lies on the right hand (southern) side of the road.
The cemetery is administered and maintained by the Narrabri Shire Council. Contact Council at PO Box 261, Narrabri NSW 2390; phone: 02 6799 6866; email: council@narrabri.nsw.gov.au
