The Wee Waa Cemetery is almost invisible from the road as it lies beyond the levee bank. Because of that, access to the grounds is gained by a narrow, curved and steep roadway over the embankment. The site is laid out in three denominational areas - Presbyterian, Anglican and Catholic - with a couple of isolated graves in the far corner in what is probably a general portion. Most, but not all, of the rows are marked but older areas within each portion contain graves that are so far out of alignment that determining their row numbers was an ad hoc decision.
Sadly, the cemetery has been subjected to a great deal of vandalism at some stage and, as is usual in such circumstances, it is the taller, historic monuments that have attracted most of the unwelcome attention. Most of the monuments, however, are in good condition with legible inscriptions and easy to photograph. They date from 1859, just one year after the town of Wee Waa was gazetted.
Surrounded by lawn at the head of the Catholic portion is a memorial wall of recent origin that contains a small number of memorial plaques. As yet, there is no columbarium or lawn cemetery although there is ample room for the development of both.
At the time of our visit, we found the grounds well maintained and in good order. The grass had been mown and graves and their surrounds protected from weeds by means of herbicide. The internal roadway is unsealed but consolidated with road base and there is plenty of room for parking. Broken glass is minimal and rabbits are well controlled. There are no shelter, shade, seats or conveniences.
We visited the cemetery over three rain-affected days in March 2006 and made notes and digital images of every visible inscription. We apologise for the raindrops on many of our images for this cemetery.

From Wee Waa's CBD in Rose Street, turn into Charles Street at the sign to Pilliga, and continue across the Wee Waa Lagoon Bridge 1km to the cemetery entrance. This is on the left hand (eastern) side of the road just before the turn-off to Pilliga.
